Degradation policy

What happens when a source goes down.

The chain of fallbacks

A failing request moves to the next provider configured for that metric. If every provider fails, BitcoinTrench serves the last good value and marks it cached with its age. If no cached value exists, the metric says unavailable and keeps retrying. At no point does BitcoinTrench substitute an invented number, and a metric never silently keeps showing a stale figure as though it were live.

What stays working

Failures are scoped to the category they belong to. If the market aggregator is unreachable, network and mining data are unaffected; if a news feed stops responding, every other page is untouched. Static content — learning material, methodology, the supply schedule and every protocol calculation — is derived from consensus rules and does not depend on any provider at all.
