Why this is an estimate
Nobody can measure Bitcoin’s hashrate directly. It is inferred from how quickly blocks are found at a known difficulty — which means the figure is statistical, and short windows are genuinely noisy. A run of fast blocks looks like a hashrate spike even when nothing changed. Treat 30-day and 1-year movements as signal, and day-to-day wobble as sampling.
